General description
The EM9201/02 is a low-voltage 2.4GHz transceiver IC with built-in link-layer logic permitting proprietary wireless links in the 2.400-2.485 GHz ISM band. It has a radio core with a low-IF architecture and GFSK modulation scheme being compatible with the emerging Bluetooth low energy technology standard.

The EM9201/02 can be operated from a single 1.5V battery by making use of the on-chip step-up (boost) DC/DC converter. This converter is designed to support an extra load such as a low-power microcontroller (host) or sensor interface circuit with a dedicated application profile. The EM9201/02 can also operate without the DC/DC converter, when supplied from a 3 V battery or any other source such as an external LDO regulator. No external coil is needed then. These two possibilities are programmable by a metal mask option:

V1: with DC/DC converter for 1.5V battery
V2: w/o DC/DC converter for any voltages 1.9 – 3.6V

On-air data rate up to 1Mbps or 2Mbps make respectively the EM9201 and EM9202 an ideal choice for portable and battery-operated devices.

CoolRF9201 Module Family
The 2.4GHz modules are based on EM Microlectronic's low energy RF transceiver EM9201. These products are highly optimized for proprietary link application requiring ultra low power consumption and short time-to-market. The purpose of the CoolRF9201 module family is to offer a very high level of integration requiring a minimum of additional components to build complete applications while maintaining design and software flexibility. It offers a plug and play solution for any EM9201 application without any additional hardware nor RF layout.

Several versions of the CoolRF9201 module are available. Selection criteria and part number are given below.

Testing: CoolRF9201SMA (SMA connector)
Production: CoolRF9201CA (Chip Antenna), CoolRF9201SA (Strip Antenna)

EMRDG9201 EM9201 Daughter Board for EM6819 ToolKit
The EMRDG9201 offers a complete and flexible RF system including transceiver and host microcontroller. The RF is based on the EM9201 Low Energy 2.4GHz transceiver and it is running with EM6819 Ultra Low Power 8bit Flash Microcontroller. The EMRDG9201 used with EM6819 Tool Kit offers an affordable software & hardware development solution for low energy RF applications. The Tool Kit provides a software tool chain, in-circuit debugging and programming capabilities, with all the features needed for developers to easily evaluate, create, build, and debug EM6819 based systems.

Battery-less wireless Switch (reference design)
By combining the EM9201 with the EM6819Fx microcontroller family, a Flash based wireless application can be built at an ultra low current consumption. This reference design demonstrates that with an energy harvester, the EM9201 used with the EM6819 allows a 2.4GHz communication without the need of a battery.

EMEVK9201 EM9201 Evaluation Kit
The EMEVK9201 is all what you need to assess the performances of the EM9201 transceiver in a configuration-less and easy-to-use environment. It allows the demonstration of a two way communication between two radio modules but also to evaluate the RF transceiver.

Thanks to its modularity, the EMEVK9201 is a really flexible working platform which allows you to measure the features of all available EM9201 modules by using one unique interface.
